Company "A"-Teleradiology
Firm
Problem: A teleradiology firm needed a solution to
allow their remote radiologists to connect into the main
office to work as effectively off site as when on site.
This includes the transmission of images and patient
information. All data transmissions needed to be encrypted
to maintain HIPPA compliance.
Solution: First solution was to provide a secure
method of connecting into the main office. We implemented a
Cisco VPN to provide
a secure and encrypted connection meeting HIPPA standards.
The second
solution was to make their patient management software
available to the radiologists and transcriptionists to allow
them to enter and retrieve data without having to use data
entry people. We used Microsoft's Terminal Server
technology to create a virtual desktop. All company
software was available to remote users over an Internet
connection. Speed and performance were excellent since
Terminal Server only transmits the screen, keyboard and
mouse controls. No data moves between the sites.
The third
solution was to handle the almost 100 faxes per day and
getting them to the data entry people. We implemented a
network fax solution. This solution receives faxes on a
four line roll over line so the sending site does not
receive a busy signal. Next the fax software integrates
into the Microsoft Exchange Email system so the faxes can be
routed to the appropriate person. The fax can then be
electronically filed so no paper is actually generated.
The last piece was to harden the servers using redundant
power supplies and a combination of RAID 1 and 5 drive
arrays. Next the Internet connection was split between two
T1 lines to allow VPN traffic to come in over either line in
case of a failed piece of equipment or a service provider
has an outage.
The project was constructed to allow the system to scale
as their growth needs changed.
Company
"B"-Construction Firm
Problem: The construction firm needed a solution
to allow their off field level project managers connect into
the main office to access mail and a construction management
software. Field personal were located in construction
trailers where access to high speed Internet lines were not
possible.
Solution: We implemented a Terminal Server
solution that made the construction software and company
mail available over a phone line type Internet access. This
allowed the field level project managers to work as
effectively away from the office as in the office.
Terminal Server also allows better utilization of in
house computers. No need to do costly upgrades. Company
software is installed once on the Terminal Server and all
people using Terminal server instantly have the latest
updates and programs.
This project has made the field engineers more productive
and reduced the operating costs in the office. Ten
computers will not have to be replaced because of the
Terminal Server solution.
Company "C"- Manufacturers Representative
Problem: This company put together a sales team
that was located throughout the country. They needed a way
to funnel sales leads to inside sales. They also needed a
way to keep track of customer information in real time to be
able to take orders and invoice.
Solution: We provided a
hosted application
solution. We put all of the software they needed to
run their business (Word, QuickBooks, ACT) on our servers.
They connect in using Microsoft's Terminal Server client.
Now all employees in the company can work closely together
on sales leads. The company does not need to purchase or
maintain any network or server equipment. All monthly IT
costs are fixed with no equipment to maintain.
Company "D" - Real Estate Company with Branch Offices
Problem:
The Real Estate Company has three branch
offices with no central server to tie everything together.
E-mail was POP3 at an ISP. If a person at a branch office
was sick, someone had to be dispatched to work at that
office for the day.
Solution: We provided a
hosted application
solution. We put all of the software they needed to
run their business (Office 2000 QuickBooks, Leader Edge) on
our servers. They connect in using Microsoft's Terminal
Server client. Now all employees in the company can work
closely together on sales leads. The company does not need
to purchase or maintain any network or server equipment.
All monthly IT costs are fixed with no equipment to
maintain.
With flexibility of the Terminal Server solution,
employees can work at home or switch offices without
actually moving to that office. This allows a personnel
reduction and a huge cost savings.
